Best Vinyl Records for Your Perfect Christmas Holiday Party

The year is coming to a close, and that means it’s time to break out all the Christmas records we keep on the shelf most of the rest of the year. Don’t worry – this collection for your Christmas party (or any other time, really!) won’t make your living room feel like a shopping mall in December.

From old standbys to new gems, we’ve gathered four records to get you in the holiday spirit and maybe discover a new favorite Christmas vinyl.

Vince Guaraldi Trio – A Charlie Brown Christmas

Few records put us in the holiday mood like this seasonal classic. For us, heading out to a local Nashville dive to hear some of the best musicians in town perform A Charlie Brown Christmas is a new tradition that we cherish.

Even if you can’t get out to see these jazz standards played live this year, you can add some spice (nutmeg?) to your collection with songs that never go out of style. Break out the smallest Christmas tree you can find and give thanks for the good things with classics like “Linus and Lucy” and “Christmas Time is Here”. Spinning A Charlie Brown Christmas vinyl is the perfect way to kick off your holiday season.

Johnny Cash – The Christmas Spirit

The Man in Black released quite a few albums of covers and standards over the years, including the American Recordings collections that gave his career a big boost in the early 2000’s. Nearly 40 years earlier, Johnny Cash recorded this collection of Christmas classics and four originals.

In addition to classics like “Blue Christmas” and “Little Drummer Boy,” The Christmas Spirit vinyl includes several spoken word pieces. “Christmas As I Knew It” features Cash speaking candidly about crossing racial and social divides to give to others during a particularly hard winter season. His perspective on spreading joy is caring for those with less is worth a listen as we head into the holidays.

Whitney Houston – One Wish

Whitney Houston is truly a once-in-a-generation voice, and we can’t put together a Christmas collection without including her spectacular One Wish vinyl. Her incredible range elevates any song any day of the year, but we think it’s pretty much impossible to listen to her “Oh, Holy Night” without getting goosebumps.

This collection is also a family affair on “Little Drummer Boy”, featuring Houston and her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown having what sounds like a fun day in the studio.

One Wish closes big with “Joy to the World” like you’ve never heard it before, featuring the Georgia Mass Choir taking it to the rafters.

Ana Gasteyer – Sugar and Booze

Oh, you didn’t know that Saturday Night Live alum Ana Gasteyer released a Christmas album? You’re welcome! We have a lot of fond memories of Gasteyer’s run on SNL, but this collection of standards and originals easily stands on its own legs.

Drop the needle on the Sugar and Booze vinyl and step back in time to a smoky jazz/swing bar with specialty drinks and cute party favors. It’s hard to put this record on without laughing out loud shaking your hips. Fellow SNL alum Maya Rudolph drops in to spread holiday cheer on “Secret Santa”, reminding us that any time of year is a good time to get a little silly with the ones we love.
